Teebs’ controlled burn
22 November, 2010 | 8.17AMNational Public Radio tends to skew towards jazz, indie, and folk, but lately they’ve been devoting more attention to electronic music. Last week, they posted a great story on Los Angeles’ Teebs, a painter and producer affiliated with Flying Lotus
‘ excellent Brainfeeder label.
Among other topics, Teebs talks about the LA “beat music” scene, how his father’s passing influenced the making of his recent album Ardour, and what, exactly, he’s doing on the record. “You’re hearing a harp, shakers, recorded drum taps ... and change falling,” he says. “I have a machine called an SP 404 — it’s a little sampler with a built-in mic, and I record everything into there and keep re-affecting it there and then into a computer. I’ve used tape peeling off something and the door-slamming of a microwave before.”
Check out the interview (both text and streaming audio) over on NPR Music, and listen to his phenomenal Ardour after the jump.
