Taste Test: Sven Väth
Taste Test: Sven Väth
6 December, 2010 | 8.01AMOf all the DJs who deserve to have their biographies written, Sven Väth surely sits near the very top of the list. He’s turned Cocoon—the Frankfurt nightclub, the label, and its long-running parties in Ibiza—into one of techno’s most iconic brands. He’s one of the scene’s most dogged “party animals,” no matter that many of his fans weren’t even born when he began making records with OFF, way back in 1985. Beloved for his on-stage charisma, behind-the-scenes antics and wildly generous spirit, the crown prince of “Gute Laune” is also something of a mystery. We may follow him from afterparty to afterparty, but do we really know “Papa Sven”?
Probably not: but at least he gives us a glimpse into his musical upbringing and his day-to-day listening with his answers to our Taste Test questionnaire.
Read on for his answers, and don’t miss his new mix, The Sound of the Eleventh Season. The latest installment of his annual showcases highlighting the year’s best tracks, the two-part mix includes cuts from Gerd, Mano Le Tough, Jacek Sienkiewicz, Daniel Stefanik, DJ Koze, Speedy J, Soul Center, MMM, Till Krüger, DJ Qu, Solomoun, Maetrik, and more. Check the full tracklisting on Discogs and get the mix on Beatport here.
