Talk, “Burning Alive”

Talk, “Burning Alive”

Jason Forrest [a] (aka DJ Donna Summer [a]) may have a reputation as a breakcore troublemaker, but he also knows how to get down: witness the output of his Nightshifters [a] [l] label, home to the likes of AC Slater [a], Mikix The Cat [a], Blatta & Inesha [a], Nick Catchdubs, and Crissy Murderbot. The label is designed with one purpose in mind: “Nightshifters is built around a core group of musicians making big club tracks to get people dancing!” says Forrest. “Our sound is hybridized; you can find elements of b’more, rave, electro, dubstep, house, bassline, and maybe even some drum and bass in the mix. We’re an open-minded lot who are working hard to make your parties better.”

Nightshifters’ latest release, Holy Mountain, comes from a mysterious figure named TALK [a]; it’s titled in tribute to the Chilean filmmaker, psychedelic explorer, and all-around visionary Alejandro Jodorovsky (who, coincidentally enough, Damian Lazarus just bigged up yesterday). Lead single “Burning Alive” is as evil as it is funky, with dread-inducing percussion and ghostly blips arrayed around an irresistible groove; the rest of the EP—including remixes from Skinnz, Distal, LOL Boys, and Deathface—ranges from brutal UK funky to dirge-like dubstep and gothic UKG.

Check out the fantastically creepy video above, and keep reading to listen to the whole release.
