Wahoo [Fine Records]

German DJ Dixon is hot property right now, and this pairing of him and Berlin-born multi instrumentalist Georg Lavin as Wahoo [a] is only going to pour fuel on that fire.

UK world music aficionado Giles Peterson hasn’t held back on the compliments, already naming it as his “soundtrack of 2007” and to be honest this could well be the pop crossover album of the year.

Much like Justin Timberlake’s ‘Justified’ album or Beyonce’s ‘Crazy In Love’, this record has maximum accessibility – leaning heavily on r&b, yet strikingly well-produced, dance floor friendly and very credible.

Part blissfully laid back (think Jamie Lidell’s ‘Multiply’ album) and part booty shaking electronic pop, the most obvious DJ friendly tracks are ‘Make Em Shake It’ and ‘Damn (You’re Here)’.

Like Pharell Williams or Outkast before them, Wahoo are about to make big waves with this little beauty.

Had we had a decent summer in Europe (thanks, God), this would have been the perfect soundtrack.

Dixon, for your services to Panorama bar and also for doing what can only be described as the audio equivalent of a flyby (ala Topgun), we salute you!
