T-Empo reworks ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’

Back in 1977, Motor City aficionados and contemporary disco-house fans alike embraced Thelma Houston’s dancefloor homage ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’.

Houston was no stranger to cover versions (‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’, ‘Love Machine’ and even ‘Suspicious Minds’) so it’s perhaps fitting that the compliment be repaid.

Jump forward to 1994 and T-Empo [a] (Adam Clough and Tim Lennox) first appear on the charts with their straight-up disco-house reading of this anthemic gospel song.

Fast forward to present day, and befitting of the ‘90s dance revival, the T-Empo boys are back with a new recording on Gusto with vocalist Juliet Roberts (she of ‘Caught In The Middle’ and ‘Needin’ You’ fame) replacing Loretta Johnson’s original vocal and adding more clout in the process.

Plus there’s a brace of piano-house infused new versions from the Digital Dog remix team that’s helped this to fill the mainrooms of Ibiza all summer long.
