Swimming
Nick Holder [NRK]
16 November, 2007 | 4.39PMPreceding a full artist album due out December, ‘Swimming’ is the latest in a long line of singles for NRK
from veteran Canadian producer Nick Holder
.
For those unfamiliar with his sunny, deep House stylings, this single should serve as a suitable introduction to a skilled musical craftsman of 10 years.
The Original would best be best heard for medicinal purposes, as it is a sort of audio anti-depressant for post-Summer blues.
The vocals on these types of beach-loving house records all too often let the track down, which thankfully Zaki manages not to do.
Sure, she’s only singing about a water-based sport, but the delivery fits snugly with music and her voice is not overly annoying.
The warm and relaxed bass is in keeping with the overall mood, as is the elegant shuffle of the drums.
This is no ‘Summer Daze’, but it is a pretty little number all the same.
The Dub, meanwhile, appears to have had its drink spiked.
Immediately more rambunctious thanks to a speed garage style bass wobble, a mischievous synth squirt grabs the lead from the vocals, that appear cut up, delayed and used more sparingly.
So that’s one side for lovers, and one for ravers.
Or something like that…
