Swell Communications Remixes
Swell Session [Freerange Records]
11 December, 2007 | 3.56PMThe basis of this release is the Swell Session
LP of collaborations entitled ‘Swell Communication’, which hit the shelves earlier in the year on the long-running Freerange Records
.
Label boss Jimpster and a currently in-form Charles Webster give a couple of the album’s tracks a tasty deep/tech house re-rub, both doing a swell job (get it!) of taking the source material to a wider audience.
In its original guise ‘All Of Me’ by Swell Session and Mark De Clive Lowe, sat nicely as a slow burning, deep Balearic number.
Webster’s version applies a skeletal, four-four drum structure and raspy analogue bass that compliment the piano flourishes of the Original nicely.
The whole thing is swamped in atmospherics, which is thanks in no small part to oodles of reverb and a lush movie soundtrack feel, typified by the strings.
Jimpster gets stuck-into the Seji collaboration ‘Prepared To Go’, which in its initial form was a shuffling, vocal-led, jazz/funk number.
The remix achieves a fine marriage between expert, modern synth work and the jazzier sensibilities of the retained elements.
Punchy drums and a tight, low-slung bass line press ahead whilst lavish helpings of an organ like sound and late 1970s soul vocal flit in, and around them.
Sophisticated pair of remixes for those more intimate dancefloor moments.
