Suspected bomb causes chaos at Ibiza airport

Up to 5000 passengers had to be evacuated from Ibiza airport yesterday after a suspected bomb had to be detonated in a controlled explosion.

All flights were suspended during the bomb scare, and initial reports suggested that terror group ETA may be behind the incident.

The websites of daily newspapers El Pais, El Mundo and La Vanguardia said three warnings had been received by Basque newspaper Gara, which ETA often uses as a conduit for bomb warnings.

But when police detonated the box, they found it to be empty.

This is the second such bomb scare on the island in six months.

On 30th June, another empty box had to be detonated in a suspected ETA attack, causing chaos for thousands of passengers.
