Support for Dan Sicko

Dan Sicko has long been one of techno’s staunchest supporters and most faithful friends.

His book Techno Rebels, originally published in 1999 and reprinted last year in a slightly updated version, remains the definitive history of Detroit techno, at least in book form, and he has written about the music of his hometown for Rolling Stone, Wired, and Urb, among others.

Now it’s time for friends of techno to give something back. In 2008, Dan was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, and he has spent the past year fighting the disease. You can read about his battle here. Recently, Dan returned home and entered hospice (or end-of-life) care. His family is asking for donations to hire in-home caregivers to give Dan the round-the-clock care he needs, and keep him as comfortable as possible.

Having helped my father through hospice, I know how trying it can be; I also know the importance of skilled caregivers, both for the patient and his or her family.

Please visit Dan’s family’s GoFundMe page, and consider giving even a few dollars to help his family through this difficult time. And, if you haven’t yet read Techno Rebels, pick up a copy, read it, and pass it on. Dan’s been a wonderful friend to techno; let’s show him the same love.
