Summer anthems tested by Luca Bacchetti

Summer anthems tested by Luca Bacchetti

Luca Bacchetti offers up our next round of summer anthems that kept the crowds moving on the dance floor this summer. Click through to see which tracks made his list.

Ryan Crosson, Guti, ‘Marimbaby’ [Supplement Facts]

I’m a big fan of Ryan and Guti: together they have produced one of the best EPs of the last few months. These are real “proper quality songs” - something Guy and Supplemental Facts have given us time and time again in recent years.

Larry Heard, Musaria, ‘Deja Vu (Musaria Mix)’ [Innervisions]

You remember the question: “What’s this summer’s song?” This masterpiece has brought this quiz which had lost some of its shine in these past years back to relevance, with a notable difference: pure poetry! Obviously a piece like this is like a beautiful suit, you must only wear it for the right occasion and this is idyllic when surrounded by the same magic that it expresses. I was in Ibiza, I remember Seth and Dice playing back to back during an after at Ushuaia...Idyllic.

Martin Buttrich, ‘Hoochie Mama’ [Desolat]

The Genius himself - Martin has a definite sensibility, a unique elegance. In all his productions, every aspect is finely tuned, dosed just right, perfectly ordered - these qualities make of Martin a superb sound “chef.” Delicate, tasty; never stodgy. From his first outing on Desolat, “Hoochie Mama” is one of the pieces I’ve played the most.

Luca Bacchetti, ‘The Endless Summer’ [Hideout]

The title says it all. Just wanting to celebrate summer with a sexy, groovy, summery track! I was in Maui at that time, and keeping in touch with nature always gives me a vibe when I’m on tour. I always try to immerse myself in Mother Nature for inspiration and sometimes I keep an image for later when I’m in the studio. The track’s title is taken from the ‘60s cult movie “The Endless Summer,” a celebration of surf and the lifestyle that goes with it.

Josh Wink, Jimpster, ‘Jus Right (Jimpster Remix)’ [Ovum Recordings]

I was already in love with the original version, but this remix has lifted “Jus Right” to an even higher level! This is what I call house music! Nothing but the best to celebrate 15 years of Ovum! A new classic!

Luna City Express, Mathias Kaden, ‘Diamonds & Pearls (Mathias Kaden’s Smaragd Remix)’ [Moon Harbour Recordings]

I think I have all of Mathias releases, right from the first productions on Vakant and Freude Am Tanzen. His concept of groove, which has developed ever more complex rhythm patterns over time, was laid out clearly together with organic elements like instruments, piano and voices. This remix reasserts his eclectic nature, with continuous changes of mood in the arrangement. It has a dynamism that just keeps you moving on the dance floor.

Davide Squillace, ‘Cubism’ [Desolat]

I can still remember when Davide made me listen to this track. I don’t think that at that point he was fully aware of what he’d done! “Cubisim” is one of his best pieces of work; the whole EP on Desolat shows his assuredness with a groove that since then he has made his own. One of his most compete EPs - modern music.

MANIK (NYC), ‘Forge’ [Hideout]

The young talented New Yorker and his debut recording on Hideout. I met Manik just over a year ago. He proposed a few tracks and I fell in love with his work straight away. His tracks always tell a story and are full of imagery - a visionary and expression of a new soul that draws on the old but at the same time is a spokesman for the new, building on an architecture made of innovative sound lines.

Surrealism, ‘So Much’ [Liebe Detail]

House with more than a nod towards classic but at the same time fresh and very feminine. “So Much” makes a difference with its simplicity. A rare example of how to make the dance-floor jump, but with elegance.

Cobblestone Jazz, ‘Sun Child’ [K7 Records]

I could listen to a loop of this piece forever! I just love the way it lulls you. Here we have Cobblestone Jazz at its maximum expression. I remember I played it as the last record at a gig in Rhodes, on the sea front, as the sun was rising ... Priceless!! Timeless!!
