Strut compiles Factory Dance

Tony Wilson’s Factory label is rightly celebrated as one of the cornerstones of post-punk, but its contributions to dance-music culture are less frequently recognized. The crate-diggers at Strut aim to rectify that with their latest compilation, Factory Dance, a compendium of groove-oriented tracks from Factory acts like Section 25, Quando Quango, Blurt, and Durutti Column. Reflecting the trans-Atlantic exchange between the Hacienda and New York’s fledgling house-music scene, even John “Jellybean” Benitez gets into the act, with a freestyle-flavored remix of 52nd Street’s “Cool As Ice.”
