L.A.O.S [Spin Recordings]

L.A.O.S delivers a two-step drum & bass head banger this month.

Fueled by a strong lead male vocal that is delivered in Jamaican dub-style, don’t think that the vibe here is quirky and drifting like the music that L.A.O.S borrows it from.

It’s more pop than anything else in that it’s infectious and works very well musically.

One can also expect a dub-style piano/guitar stab on the offbeat, which further ties the style of this track down to Jamaican soil.

Underneath the vocals is quite an ordinary track in that it’s all about snappy kicks and snares layered with — you guessed it — a high-pass filtered amen drum.

That said, its producers are evidently on their way to great things, because their pairing of a cool, bubbly, layered synth with an insane bassline smacks of the touch of clever artists.

Now — ‘1990’s’, the B-side — does this really sound like it comes from one of the worst years for fashion in living memory?

Yes indeed, but if you’re thinking late nineties ala Bad Company, Ed Rush and Optical, then you’re mistaken; ‘1990s’ is a throwback to what we now call ‘Old Skool’ or ‘Hardcore’ in that it’s laden with pupil-dilating pianos and sped up female vocals.

It might be too cheesy for some, though.
