American DJs are few and far between in Ibiza as the island is more Euro-centric, but Steve Aoki is one Los Angeles transplant that has made a big impact on the party island.

As resident DJ of Ibiza Rocks, Steve Aoki plays at the much-hyped Ibiza Rocks Hotel every two weeks, warming up the arena for the headlining rock bands.

He won ‘Best Set of the Season’ at the Ibiza Awards 2007, and last week he stepped up to the famous BBC Radio 1 turntables to produce an Essential Mix, a set usually reserved for only the DJing elite.

“I was pretty excited to be asked to do an Essential Mix,” Steve told Beatportal.

For his two hour set Steve blended 32 tracks of rip-roaring electro house, chunky electronica grooves and rock-influenced house (check out his Essential Mix tracklist below).

“Warming up for rock bands is a fun gig to play because you have to work your set for the crowd,” said Steve.

“I play lots of rock bootlegs and rock-influenced electro house so that there’s something for them to recognize.”

Steve Aoki runs the successful record label Dim Mak, which has put out records by Bloc Party, Klaxons, The Gossip and Rakes.

1. Weird Science ‘Haus of Cards’ [Dim Mak]

This is my group’s first single which will drop at the end of the year.

It’s got this amazing 1990s piano build up which people love.

2. Steve Aoki ‘Dead Meat’ [Dim Mak]

This is again, a new track dropping at the end of the year on my record label.

It has a huge epic build up which causes a storm on the dancefloor!

3. MSTRKRFT ‘Bounce’ [Dim Mak]

This is the ultimate club track. There’s nothing more to say about it.
