Steinberg’s Second Sequel

Steinberg’s Second Sequel

For years now, PC users have ogled Apple’s iLife media creation tools with a certain degree of envy and respect.

With intuitive and powerful applications like iPhoto, iMovie and iWeb, Mac users have had it easy when it comes to expressing themselves.

But budding PC-based producers have had it the roughest because Microsoft has focused its efforts on bundling photo and video tools with Windows, while largely ignoring the amateur and semi-pro musician audience, unlike Apple, who delivered GarageBand – which is largely a slimmed-down Logic Pro – to its users, free of charge.

A few years back, Steinberg stepped up to the plate and created Sequel as an inexpensive music creation platform that looks and feels quite a bit like GarageBand, offering a surprisingly capable suite of tools at an extremely affordable price: $99 US

This week, Steinberg has taken the wraps off Sequel’s sequel, Sequel 2 (yep, I wanted to see how many consecutive times I could use that word in a sentence – forgive ;)

The upgrade includes a nice assortment of really useful tools like track freezing, warp markers (a la Ableton Live), and several new performance features that allow for MIDI control of effects, triggering sounds, and so on.

If you’re currently a Sequel user, the upgrade to Sequel 2 is a mere $29 US.

Adding to the Sequel buzz this week is the release of several new Sequel Content Sets, which are similar to Apple’s Jam Pack line of soundware packages but priced a lot more sensibly at only $14.90 US.

All in all, it’s great to see Steinberg supporting new producers in our community with an intuitive environment like Sequel.
