Steel Bells EP
Toby Tobias [Tiny Sticks]
13 December, 2007 | 2.34PM- Section: Music Reviews
Toby Tobias has managed through his Late Night Audio parties in London’s Shoreditch to create a night that revels in its dark, deep disco sound.
This begs the question, why is ‘Steel Bells’ so damn nice?
I mean there is nothing offensive about this track, but by opting instead to avoid the sound that has helped him craft one of East London’s most successful late night parties, he has produced a track that simply passes you by.
Chicken Lips, in their Zeefungkt guise, then do more of a Toby Tobias on the track than the man himself.
It’s still not tune of the year but, is a definite improvement, taking the airy key section of the original and making it darker and slightly more foreboding and adding a typical Chicken Lips baseline and break into the production.
Definitely worth it for the Zeefungkt mix, but I have already forgotten what the original sounds like.
