Stakes EP
Dinamoe [Alpaca ]
10 February, 2009 | 12.13PMDinamoe
is 23 year-old German producer who, for the last couple of years, has been baking the sort of skeletal, bleep-riden techno you could a imagine a hungry Davide Squillace
or Paco Osuna
devouring.
The Stakes EP is in no way a departure from the sound Dinamoe has been resolutely pushing for the last couple of years, rather a variation on the theme that brings enough new ideas to the fore in order to maintain his forward momentum.
Title track ‘Stakes’ is a bit of a sound clash: a ballsy deep house flavour is stirred into a rolling, sine wave soaked groove that brings a Minus![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
like image to mind (the pitched down vocal helps emphasise the point).
‘Maceo’ meanwhile is a shade lighter and a great deal funkier. Scattered synthesis is still the order of the day but the bass is placed on a much greater footing, generating an infectious case of hip-swingery.
The housier end of the Dinamoe range is explored finally on ‘Triple’, a track that has enough percussive interest and vocal samples to make it passable, but doesn’t make the impact of its predecessors.
