Spooky techno anyone?
Spooky techno anyone?
9 April, 2009 | 5.17AMClaude VonStroke’s side imprint Mothership
has just dropped an EP of very scary techno from KiloWatts and Tanner Ross’ project Voodeux
. The EP is the first to be released from the pair’s forthcoming album due in July.
With Tanner Ross’ previous work having included psychedelic soundscapes for labels like Native State and HoloPhon, and KiloWatts’ spatial tech house and breaks having landed in the past on Thoughtless Music and Loopfreaks Black, the duo have stumbled across a pretty unique sound.
Like a cross between drum & bass and techno, ‘Bones’ features d&b-style dark synth stabs and haunting pads underpinned by a typically groovy Mothership/Dirtybird tech house beat.
The Flipside ‘Skeleton Key’ nods towards the future with spacey FX and bleeps, but there’s still an uneasy feeling of horror floating through the track like a wandering ghost.
With dark techno having been diluted somewhat by its osmosis with the funkier elements of house music, Voodeux are bringing the blood with black cloaks and daggers. Wahahaha.
