This has been an extremely busy year for Spiritchaser (a.k.a. Richard Earnshaw and Mark Bamford), unleashing a long list of original productions and remixes on a multitude of labels.

As we near the summit of 2007, they deliver the first installment of their new ‘Spiritlevel’ series.

‘As We Fall’ is first up and the strongest display of Spiritchaser’s lush hypnotism on this EP.

A simple DJ-friendly intro drops into a harmonious blend of rolling low end and phased out chords which simply loop and flange to great effect.

Spoken words finish things off nicely.

The sound is instantly familiar (think Naked Music meets Om) and feels like warm sand on your feet.

Pure sun kissed vibes.

The tempo is increased on ‘Blue Skies’.

The looped dubby hypnotics remain strong but skippy percussion and bumpy analogue bass shifts this up a gear.

Throw in processed keys and fluttering feel-good notes and you have yourself a dancefloor winner.

The shimmering ‘Coast’ rounds off the package, providing a more techy approach compared to the two previous tracks.

Extremely low, rib-shaking frequencies mingle with spacey riffs and warm pads to create darkness and light in the same breath.

While ‘Spiritlevel 1’ isn’t groundbreaking, it’s the kind of staple which will stay in your box well into the summer of 2008.
