Spellbound EP

Marcus Worgull [Innervisions]

Marcus Worgull’s ‘Spellbound EP’ is a bit of a departure in sound for Innervisions [a] [l] — well a half departure, at least.

In the case of the title track, Marcus Worgull [a] offers up what would best be described as a happy house record, with vocals and everything!

Whether or not this track finds appreciation with the listener will depend greatly on the mood in which it’s heard.

With a drink in hand down at Bora-Bora, Ibiza, this might sound like a pleasant enough 8 minutes of wholesome, musical fun.

On the other hand, in a less than breezy frame of mind, the track would certainly have the power to irritate immensely.

What should be pointed out, however, is the production is top notch, and in the Dub Mix you have a cut that would work nicely in breaking up a darker period during a DJ set.

‘Under The Sycamore Tree’, on the other hand is Innervisions all-over, and miles better for it.

Comparatively, the depth of the track is taken down a mineshaft.

A groove that begins its journey tightly wound and tense, slowly unfolds as the notes are sustained for longer and longer, giving way to a glistening array of sounds and textures.

Recommended release, if only for the B-side.
