South America Uncovered: Part 9: Alejandro Vivanco

Chile’s Alejandro Vivanco [a] is one of the top Latin artists at the moment.

He has just released ‘Madre Tierra’ on Cadenza Records, and now he’s the top-ranking artist on the label.

Vivanco is climbing everyday on the minimal charts too.

We had the chance to speak with Vivanco.

Vivanco comes from the musical city of Viña del Mar, which is well-known in Latin America for being the city that hosts The Festival of Viña del Mar, one of the most important music festivals in South America.

Vivanco is known for being a very kind with a positive attitude and a very keen vision about his music.

“Ever since I was a child, I was attracted to music.

“My father was into jazz, and in my adolescence I was in a few rock bands,” said Vivanco about his past in music.

In the 1990s, he started to look deeper into electronic music and shared influences with artists like Marcelo Umaña and Luciano.

Vivanco has been into minimal for a very long time, so we asked him about the development of the genre.

“There has been a lot of development.

“Actually, almost every style has explored some kind of influence from the minimal sound.”

Cadenza and ‘Madre Tierra’

Vivanco enjoys working with a label like Cadenza, which he holds in high regard.

“I really like Cadenza because there are lots of artists, each with unique styles.

“That says a lot about Cadenza — it has its own identity.”

‘Madre Tierra’ (which means mother earth) is an EP with 3 songs (’Lemon Lab’, ‘Dissolved’ and ‘Madre Tierra’).

Each selection is very complex with minimalist roots.

“I created special textures and atmospheres for this release,” Vivanco explains of the process, which becomes evident with a listen to ‘Lemon Lab’, which features exquisite textures and sounds from the nature.

Meanwhile, ‘Dissolved’ emphasizes atmospheric and deep sounds; it’s a very reflective track.

Finally, ‘Madre Tierra’ has a clear Latin influence, with tropical sounds and a beautiful slow paced melody.

It’s a very well made release that deserves a place among the top.

South America and the future

Vivanco is well-traveled and sees the influence of South America on the world.

“In Berlin, there is a lot of Latin influence of artists from Venezuela, Argentina and Chile,” observes Vivanco.

Vivanco is very excited to be making his first visit to Venezuela on November 10th at Backdoor Bambi Club in Caracas.

“I’ve never been there, I hope to have a great night there in Venezuela.”

Vivanco is also preparing a new EP and new releases coming soon, most likely on the Andes Music [l] label.

‘Madre Tierra’ strongly represents the mystique that Latin America has to offer to the world.

The EP is a great gift from this great artist, Alejandro Vivanco [a], to electronic music lovers from all around the globe.
