South America Uncovered: In Trance with Istmo Music

Fernando Kriete is the owner of Istmo Records, one of the most innovative and successful labels in Latin America.

Istmo focuses on trance, and now, originating in El Salvador, the label is one of the most prestigious in Latin America.

Kriete balances being a musician and administrator, and has mixed as a DJ since 16 years of age.

“One of our goals at Istmo is to discover and to successfully launch the careers of the best artists in Latin America,” Kriete comments on the label’s approach.

Istmo Music, like a few other labels in South America, works as an artist agency and in event production, too — joining forces with artists from different places in Latin America.

“Some of our artists are Santiago Nino who is Colombian but lives in Guatemala; Heatbeat, a very good Argentinian duo; Damien Heck from Canada; Alex Hentze and Francis Davila, both from Guatemala; and the last one, Francis — the best and most successful DJ of all Middle America.”

This label is gaining popularity around the world quickly, and some of their artists’ cuts have been found on prestigious releases, along with other highly respected artists.

The duo Heatbeat are working on future releases with labels like In Charge (Marco V) and Armada (Armin Van Buuren).

Santiago Nino was chosen by Paul Van Dyk to play with him in his Vonyc Sessions World Tour in Latin America, and after that, to go to Berlin and Ibiza.

Istmo is preparing several new releases through December of 2008 and are about to launch Istmo Agency (see link below), where they are still planning Istmo Music Nights with artists such as Marco V and Above & Beyond.

The Istmo Agency is also planning a tour called Danceversify for Santiago Nino’s highly-anticipated forthcoming album.

The success of Istmo Music is no coincidence, as it is home to many great artists in Latin America.

Fans of trance should find a fresh perspective, and should be sure to take a look not just into its main artists like Francis Davila, Santiago Nino and Heatbeat — but also into more obscure artists such Alex Hentze and Gabriel Bats.
