Sonica brings beats to the world

Sonica brings beats to the world

The prestigious e-music academy, Sonica, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is about to start a new cycle and it’s recruiting people from all of South America and beyond to start its new courses for 2008.

Some of the degrees available include ‘Electronic Music Career’ and the ‘Mixing and Recording for the Home Studio’.

The first curriculum, ‘Electronic Music Career’, lasts two years and is entirely oriented towards learning electronic music.

The basics are taught, like the main sequencing programs, plus more advanced synthesis techniques.

Students learn with top of the line software, such as Nuendo, Ableton Live and Reason, among others.

The second curriculum, ‘Mixing and Recording for the Home Studio’, lasts one year and includes courses that teach the development of home studios and has the support from Digidesign and its star program, Pro Tools.

The idea is to learn microphone techniques, sampling, analog mixing, mastering and more.

Gustavo Rosas, marketing manager for Sonica, told us, “This is the first time in the world that someone has created a curriculum of this kind”.

The academy started a division for special scholarships for all its courses, including the courses based on remote e-learning.

People from all around the world can train in different fields, such as ‘Remixing with Ableton Live’, ‘Music Theory’ or ‘House Music Production’, a program available in one of the most house oriented countries in Latin America.

Training is also available for specific programs such as ‘Ableton Live Level I and II’, ‘Sound Forge’, ‘Absynth’ and ‘Reaktor’.

These courses are taught remotely in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

The courses run from four to twelve weeks, and their range is from $100 to $320USD.

Those interested in learning about electronic music production with the Latin touch should include Sonica as an option, combining good prices as well as support from the main audio software companies.
