Sonar 2008: Guy Gerber interview
Sonar 2008: Guy Gerber interview
19 June, 2008 | 4.29AMIsrael’s Guy Gerber
recently changed his sound.
He used to be the toast of the progressive house world because of his ability to create dark, haunting soundscapes over proggy beats but at Miami’s Winter Music Conference in March 2008 he revealed a more housey side.
Beatportal grabbed Guy Gerber during Sonar 2008 to find out why he decided to change his sound.
Why the change in sound?
I constantly change my sound. In general, I come from a rock and disco background, and house has always been my thing.
I like house because it’s sexy.
The sound I’m pushing now is not necessarily house, it’s more nostalgic techno.
I try to make music that reminds people of the past, but produce it in a way that sounds very today.
People seem to like my new sound - Richie Hawtin was praising it.

What releases do you have coming up?
I’ve got a new release just out on my own label Supplement Facts ‘Disorientation’.
It’s pretty deep and more for afterhours.
The track is very emotional, but then, all my music is emotional.
I’m a very emotional guy.
When was the last time you cried?
It was about a year ago.
I try not to cry, but I felt like crying and releasing some emotion so I forced myself to cry.
What’s your biggest track currently?
Prompt ‘Elephant’ [check it in the player below] is my biggest track. It came out a few months ago but I love it.
