Red Robin, Jakob Hilden [Trapez Ltd...

Yet another impressive new act pops up on Trapez Ltd, whose A&R department seems bafflingly good at finding exciting new talents.

Here, we’re treated to virginal talents of Red Robin & Jakob Hilden, a Berlin-based pair of chums who clearly have a predilection for super-punchy power-minimal.

Both tracks on this release work along similar lines, with pumping one note monobass, staccato percussive clips and walloping percussive fills exactly where they should be.

Lush deep techno this is not – it’s all about the floor.

Of the two tracks, ‘Snapdragon’ just about edges it, with its steam engine chug, razor-sharp snares, and wild rat-a-tat percussive clips guaranteed to decimate all but the most purist electronic dancefloors.

Wonky enough to lose your brain to but thumping enough to keep your feet glued to the floor, it’s certainly not` the most intellectual release on Trapez, but it’s a fine slice of peak time pomp all the same.

‘Dandelion’ takes a slightly more low-slung route, with a delirious kick tumbling in and out of the groove and detuned tube noises dripping narcotically away.

Once again, the duo let rip with the rat-a-tat drums, this time beefed up with a series of swooshing handclaps to give it a slightly rougher texture.

Properly rocking stuff.
