The Vandalism ‘V8 Remix’ of ‘Smash Disco’ is a skulking, sleazy bitch of an electro house animal.
“Smash girls, smash boys, turn it on – electric toys!” says the whorish-sounding woman laying down a constant, poignant vocal on this top-selling Beatport download.
Expect a sparse arrangement with dynamic, filtered beats, that turns into something really special in its middle: a bubblegum pop / rock hybrid with funky, distorted guitars and shout-it-out-loud fem vox.
Now, onto the Kam Denny remix, and somehow the cool vocals of the previous track are exposed here as being a bit thin when they’re all out on their own and not masked by beats and percussion.
This is a grungy, rock-tinged remix that is much more radio-orientated than the last, featuring a tasty delayed drop and floor-friendly sounds.
The Cut remix is bizarre.
On the build-up, it sounds like a dark, turgid electro house creeper, but, as everything advances, the darkness pulls away, leaving in its place what sounds like an acid-influenced jam session in your mate Dave’s drum kit in his mum’s garage.
When the track loops back in, expect a sick staccato bleep-fest with clever vocal edits and infectious, swooping effects.
