It’s been appearing in Paul Kalkbrenner’s live sets for a while, and now this melodic techno anthem is finally available on Beatport as part of the soundtrack for the much-anticipated movie ‘Berlin Calling’.

The lyrics were written and sung by Paul’s younger brother Fritz Kalkbrenner, giving the track a melancholy sweetness that will surely make it the biggest hit spawned by the film.

Working a gentle 808-style beat under cascading, hymnal pads (think Pachelbel’s ‘Canon’, classical fans), it’s the kind of heartfelt tear-jearker that will appeal to neo-deep house heads, indie-techno lovers, and melodic minimal types alike.

Available as part of the ‘Berlin Calling’ soundtrack, ‘Sky & Sand’ is in good company, with the rest of the album featuring a mix of Paul Kalkbrenner’s re-edited hits (notably the mighty ‘Gebrunn, Gebrunn’) and a smattering of fresh material.

Whether it will breakthrough and become a mainstream smash remains to be seen - but we reckon it certainly has all the right ingredients.
