Single of the Week: ‘Brokeback EP’
Single of the Week: ‘Brokeback EP’
21 August, 2007 | 8.21AMWith four distinctly different tech house moods, Jerome Sydenham’s ‘Brokeback EP’ is Beatportal’s Single of the Week. We caught up with the Ibadan Records
head to find out more about his groovy new release and the current tech house sound.
You’ve been involved in tech house for a long time. How has the sound changed over the years?
“I think tech house is getting more diverse musically and better overall.
“The cool thing about it is that it tends to blur into other musical genres.”
‘Brokeback EP’ contains four very different tracks what was the plan behind the release?
“In these times of the fading vinyl I am of the belief that Ibadan Records has to make sure that it puts out the highest quality material stacked onto EPs to give the customer absolute bang for the buck.
“‘Brokeback’ is an example of this mindset and will be a continuing trend for Ibadan.”
What was the idea behind the London Beats mix of ‘36 Degrees’?
“The London Beats mix represent my temperament when playing house in London.”
That mix is pretty different to Ricky L’s remix of ‘Your House’, which is sexy deep house with techno elements.
“‘Your House’ certainly represents an aspect of sound which amongst others we will be exploring more of at Ibadan.”
Is that where you see tech house going over the next 12 months?
“If I told you that I would be revealing a trade secret.”
So can you reveal a secret about the upcoming future?
“For me personally I will be delving deeper into tech house and techno but my peers will keep the diversity of Ibadan and Apotek Records alive and well. Stay tuned.”
