Simian Mobile Disco mix your fix
Simian Mobile Disco mix your fix
14 October, 2010 | 1.32PMIf you’re needing a fix of blistering techno and bonkers electronics, Simian Mobile Disco’s new mix album, Is Fixed, is just the thing to scratch that itch.
Released this week on Defend Music, the mix is a tribute to the New York party Fixed, helmed by resident DJs JDH and Dave P, two of Simian Mobile Disco’s most stalwart Stateside supporters. True to form for an event that privileges forward-thinking, idiosyncratic, and downright bizarre dance music, Is Fixed is not your average club-music mix.
With an emphasis on churning sequences and analog frequencies, the duo traverses cosmic psychedelia from Etienne Jaumet
, classic techno from Bam Bam
, vintage experimental electronics from Conrad Schnitzler
, and clicks ‘n’ cuts throb from SND. The middle portion of the set focuses on heavy, peaktime fare from the likes of Paul Woolford
, Clement Meyer, Andre Walker, and Beatportal’s own Philip Sherburne, while Pantha Du Prince
and Hot Chip
(as remixed by Carl Craig
) round out the set’s melodic component. Simian Mobile Disco
contribute two tracks: their mix of DJ Hell’s “U Can Dance” and “Nerve Salad,” a recent single from their own Delicacies label.
Speaking of Delicacies, in November, SMD will release a compilation of Delicacies material featuring eight instrumental cuts that showcase the duo as the mad studio scientists they are. We’re salivating already.
