Silicone Soul Interview: We will sound like us, until someone tells us to stop!

Glasgow based duo, [Silicone Soul], are currently promoting new, self-titled album “Silicone Soul”, and they are marking tenth anniversary from the debut release.  Craig Morisson i Graeme Reedie, the pioneers of the legendary label [Soma Records, became internationally recognized 2001 with the anthem „Right on, Right on“. Actual, the fourth album is „expressing a colorful history and delving deeper than before into their soul.” We caught up with Graeme to briefly chat regarding their productions, some anecdotes and next plans…

Reviews say that in this album you are trying to put all your music experience together. What do you say? 

Well, that is what we are always trying to do! Got the grooves we love and fit them all together in a way that it doesn`t, hopefully, sound like a mess!

Two of you lived in the neighborhood and spent a lot of time together in the house studio. How do you work now, when Craig moved to France? 

Basically, we still have the same studio. We sometimes start something as an idea and I can send it via email. But I try to go very often to France; it is very sunny and good for work.

You are good friends with Slam. Have you ever realized lecture in Soma Skool?

Yeah, we`ve done that!  We done two or three lectures, panels, courses with Logic softwares, educating people how to make music on their computers.

Before electronic music involvement, you had a rock band…

We had bands before we met. And when we grew up, the music had changed and we started going to parties.

Have you ever thought of performing live act, besides mixing?

Maybe. I play guitar, bass and piano for the tracks, but If I would play live, I couldn’t remove the mistakes. I have ideas, but I can`t play them from the first. That’s why I rather use equipment where I can realize my ideas.

Three years ago you`ve launched your label [Darkroom Dubs], but you release your albums for Soma..

At our label we promote our artists; there is very successful year behind us, with a lot of quality music. We release everything that we like, from deep house, to hard techno. We release our material for SOMA, we have a contract, and we are very happy that we are part of it.

You had an interesting anecdote with Mick Jagger..

We`ve met him in London, going out from the studio and he was getting in. We were shocked, we are his big fans! We asked for an autogramme, and we said it is for my father!

You had one bizarre experience. While you were playing in Manila, Filipini, civil war started…

After the gig, we were sitting and drinking coffee in the centre which look like Manhattan, and across the river, there was suburb where was revolution burning! In Manhattan everyone’s protected, but it was not so pleasant, I was very happy when we came to airport!

What is the next thing in 2010?

We are going to celebrate 20 years of Soma, we will make a tour, together with [Slam] and [Funk D Void]! We will be preparing the next album, doing everything we do now. The plan is to still sound like us! Until someone tells us to stop!
