Shara Nelson and ‘Go That Deep’ bring NUfrequency back into the spotlight
26 March, 2008 | 2.39PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
It’s been almost three years since NUfrequency debuted with the Essential New Tune ‘808 (Why Oh Why)’.
The Italian collaboration between DJ Shield, Alessandro Ripamonti and Christiano Massera crafted an irritably catchy instrumental that was hauntingly beautiful and simple in equal parts.
Fast forward to present day, and they return with their sophomore release joined by one of greatest British soul voices of our era, Shara Nelson.
‘Go That Deep’ on Rebirth has been a slow burner for a few months since copies were leaked to the fortune few.
As with their debut, this is another textbook blend of electronica seamlessly matched with lush orchestrated arrangements akin to those of Air.
Yet whilst comparisons can be flattering, they can also mask true creativeness that NUfrequency clearly possess.
It’s the voice that truly makes this a special moment — Shara’s delivery is faultless and hauntingly surreal with Charles Webster’s moody deep house mix in particular the perfect platform, while Redanka offer one of their best mixes since they rocked U2’s ‘Vertigo’.
An early contender for record of the year.
