Serge Santiago gets back under the Italo glitterball

After a short break, London based warehouse-disco master Serge Santiago is back on his own Arcobelano label with a couple of killer Italo disco re-edits, this time produced in conjunction with London DJ Sophie Lloyd.

Serge gained notoriety a couple of years back with his revisions of classics including Alexander Robotnik’s ‘Atto D’Amore’, Kano’s ‘It’s A War’ and Grace Jones’ ‘Slave To The Rhythm’, and while his recent productions and remixes have tended more towards the techno side of things, he clearly couldn’t resist another stab at a strutting ‘80s bomb or two.

First up is the heartfelt pomp of ‘Flowers In The Rain’.

Serge explained the choice on the Rough Trade site:

“I’ve had a go at ‘Flowers in the Rain’ by Thai Break for this, thanks to Damon Martin down at Disco Bloodbath.

“After my girlfriend heard it, it’s now become her favourite track of all time.

“I like it too!”

Here’s the original in all its big-haired glory.

Meanwhile, Lama’s ‘Love On The Rocks’ has been highly sought after by Italo buffs for many years.

“ ‘Love On the Rocks’ is such a great track, we barely needed to change it,” admits Sophie.

“We just toughened it up for more oomph!”

If you’ve yet to experience the guilty pleasures of Italo proto-cheese at its finest, check the original below.
