SEGO’s ‘Jakarta To Tokyo’on Beatport

Jakarta-based techno DJs and producers, Andre Dunant and Jim Geovedi, are building up a reputation as one of Indonesia’s most reliable electronic acts.

‘Jakarta To Tokyo’ released by Plus Records (Plus Tokyo), marks their latest venture.

True to form, they are put together a consistent and highly enjoyable listen, delivered in their straight, no-nonsense style.

“She Was” is a decent Techno ditty spoiled by a pathetic vocal line. The bass rolling hard, the textures are polished, and a handful of short breaks keep things energetic from start to finish, but it would take far more dazzling production to salvage this track.

Things improve slightly with “Kodok Ngeprog”, a run-of-the-mill DJ tool that struggles to draw attention to itself, despite its smooth and heavy beat.

It’s Shin Nishimura‘s remix of “She Was” that provides the main motivation for seeking this somewhat obscure release out, though. Here, darkly atmosphere recall and emotes on top.
