- ‘Incandescence’ by Scott Richardson
is receiving support from some big names like Matt Darey and Suzy Solar.
The release comes equipped with the original plus five remixes, one of which is a more club-friendly version from Scott Richardson himself.
The Original Mix is a smooth laid-back track with some very interesting sounds making up the melody. It begins with a very solid kick drum, and some claves that are reminiscent of Motorcycle’s ‘As The Rush Comes’. Not long after this, a build in the percussion signals the very sparse bassline to start, which is accompanied by a very smooth pad that follows closely after. A large part of the appeal for this track is the melody, which sounds as if it may have been sampled from someone blowing over the top of a bottle. This is also one of those tracks that is laden with atmosphere. Sweeps, swirls and sparkly sounds are in abundance, but never distract from the main elements. Incandescence definitely gives you the feeling of sitting around a fire watching the sparks float off and fade away.
For those of you interested in the more dancefloor friendly vibe, The Main Room Mix takes alot of the main ideas of the original, and turns the club level up a notch or two. The first thing you notice is the increase in tempo, and from the offset it is obvious that this mix is coming in with more velocity. The bassline had been replaced with a more driving pattern, and there is extra elements of percussion to push the track forward. The original mix pops it’s head in at the breakdown, with that lead melody sound, though this time it brings some more delay with it. This helps to replace the swirls and sparkles that are absent from this mix.
Newcomer Rodskeez lends his hand to a more progressive number, in anticipation of his upcoming double release late this month. This mix seems to be the runaway success for this release, with its smooth hihats, driving bass and very interesting play on the melody. Definitely a producer to watch out for!
Discover Records artist Sterilis provides a mix that takes the original, and plays on the concepts, introducing an arpeggiated lead and speeding up the tempo somewhat. There’s an interesting filtered arp running through the intro that almost feels like part of the percussion. The breakdown brings a more traditional trance feel to the track with an arpeggiated main lead, and some soaring pads.
Last but not least, Patrik Carrera puts forth his interpretation complete with his tech / minimal influenced style that has made his previous releases popular. There’s some very crunchy / glitched percussion in the intro, accompanied with some nearly tribal styled percussive sounds that are quickly surrounded by the melody from the original. But don’t be fooled, it all gives way to a completely new take on the track, beginning with a minimal beat and bassline, and that crunchy percussion you heard in the intro. A single note pluck with lots of reverb comes in over the top before it is added to the groove of the track. Just when you’ve lost yourself in this, the whole melodic section comes back to slap you out of whatever state you found yourself in. Definitely a mix to be heard if you are a fan of all things left-field.
