Schleppstigg: Up in the Weeds
Schleppstigg: Up in the Weeds
21 November, 2011 | 8.00AMGermany’s Areal label, home to the likes of Ada, Metope, Pan/Tone and Basteroid, presents a new face with the release of its latest record, ”Up in the Weeds.”
We can’t tell you much about Schleppstigg, whose name seems to translate (although in which language, we have no idea) as “sleep stick.” His/her/their biography doesn’t explain much: “A Romance. A light and humorous drama with a happy ending. A device for amplifying or transmitting sound. A flexible pair of paddles bound together at one end, to strike a blow to a person with a loud clapping sound but without injury.”
What we do know is that “Up in the Weeds” is a sublime example of moody house music suffused in string pads and low-key vocals, and the remixes from Benjamin Brunn & Move D and Kalabrese round out the record with squirrelly acid and laid-back funk, respectively. For fans of the quirkier corner of the deep end, diving in is a no-brainer. Check out samples of the remixes below, and get the full EP on Beatport here.
