Sasse announces new album ‘Toinen’ in the pipeline

The Mood Music boss and irrepressible Finn Sasse is back with another supercharged longplayer ‘Toinen’.

Home to stars like Kiki and Henrik Schwarz, Moodmusic has proven itself to be one of electronic music’s most discerning European labels.

It’s also been a launchpad for Sasse’s own tracks and most notably his 2006 debut album, ‘Made Within the Upper Stairs of Heaven’.

Loved by the press and DJs like Tiefschwarz, Tobi Neumann and Anja Schneider alike its soon to be followed up by a second this summer.

‘Toinen’, meaning ‘second’ in Finnish, will be released in September.

“It’s going to be a surprise for some people that the album is quite melodic and synth-laden and there are no vocal collaborations on it like on the last one with Kiki, Malte and Bernadette La Hengst,” Sasse tells Beatportal. “It’s definitely more Detroit influenced than my last album which was for me more an experiment into the italo-disco thing.”

“I tried to use the most of my analogue synth arsenal to get a unique sound to it.”

“A lot of the preproduction was done on virtual instruments but later tracked with proper analogue synths and gear like my beloved Elka Synthex analogue monster.”

The album was made in Sasse’s BlackheadStudios in Berlin, also home to good friends Ewan Pearson and DJ Naughty.

“It’s good fun with the guys,” says Sasse. “The daily vibe is excellent and there’s not a day without some practical jokes from my dear partners — it’s such a creative pool that I’m not sure what I would do if I had to work alone.”

Like many labels, Mood Music felt the pinch when vinyl sales began to drop but luckily survived with a constant slew of great tracks like The Dirt Crew’s remix of Sasse’s ‘Soul Sounds’.

“Running a label is actually not as bad as everybody says,” says Sasse. “We survived the worst basically ‘cause we’re a small label and were able to adjust ourselves to the new realities of the industry.

“It’s definitely not a goldmine to run a label, but at the same time I love what I do so I’m more than happy.”
