Sasha and John Digweed talk music
7 April, 2008 | 5.46PM- Section: Music News Topics: Sasha & Digweed Tour 2008
As the fifth gig of Sasha and John Digweed’s Spring Club Tour 2008 is about to kick off tonight in Nashville, it seems appropriate to discuss the soundtrack to the tour.
At gig No.5 the boys have had the chance to play a significant proportion of their tour record boxes, and digest the results of the most important test there is for a DJ – the dancefloors’ reaction.
Whilst Sasha and [[John Digweed] are known for being upfront with their track selections – despite playing four sets in four days there was surprisingly little repetition – there are a few nuggets that are cropping up in every set.
And it is these few bold tracks could define Sasha and John Digweed’s campaign.
Christian Smith & John Selway ‘Total Departure’ [Drumcode]
At every show so far John Digweed has dropped Christian Smith and John Selway’s ‘Total Departure’, a massive driving techno track that features a recognisable rising synth noise.
“It’s a track that I’ll play towards the end of a set when I want to take things up a notch,” says John.
Like a call to arms, this track urges the dancefloor to let rip, and it’s been one of the biggest tunes of the tour so far.
John Selway, one of the producers of the track, has actually made a simple promotional video for ‘Total Departure’, which we found on YouTube.
Sasha’s new Involver record
“I’ve played a few tracks off my new Involver record that are going down really well,” says Sasha.
“There’s a remix of Ladytron ‘Destroy’ which has been getting everyone excited.
“Secret Cinema ‘Chicago’ is another great record that I’ve been playing a lot.
“The new Silicone Soul track – ‘The Pact’ – is also a big tune for the tour.”
Of course, being Sasha, some of his tracks are so upfront that he doesn’t know half of their names.
“I’m playing loads of new music, which I don’t yet know the names of,” he says, grinning.
“But there is this one track called ‘America 1’ which is absolutely amazing.
“I don’t know who made it, but I love it.”
