SAMC interview: Dokser of Dual Musik

SAMC interview: Dokser of Dual Musik

Another hot Argentinean techno talent worth checking out is Dokser [a], who runs the label Dual Musik.

With releases on Off Side, Pissed Off and Minisketch he has built up a name for himself as a new South American producer with the studio skills to match.

Beatportal sat down with Dokser in Buenos Aires to find out more about his sound and his label.

What do you think of South American Music Conference?

“I’m from Argentina originally but I now live in Barcelona, so every year I come to SAMC and stay in Argentina for 1.5 months.

“This year was great for me because there was loads of artists here that I normally play with in Barcelona, like Adam Beyer and Paco Osuna.

“I usually play with those guys at their Club 4 party at City Hall.

“It was great to be able to show them around my hometown.

“Coming back to Argentina and Buenos Aires is always great because it’s like a welcome home for me.”

Has the electronic music scene in Buenos Aires changed much since you left?

“It used to be very much about progressive house. But now people have started to open their minds and get into different music.

“People started to open their minds last year when Richie Hawtin came and played techno at last year’s SAMC.”

What do you think about Argentinean producers?

“It seems to be in fashion at the moment - if you’re an producer from Buenos Aires, people pay attention.”

How can South American producers get more support?

“You need a godfather to become well-known by someone from outside of the local scene who has an international profile.

“For example, Barem is supported by Richie Hawtin.

“Jonas Kopp is supported by Matthew Dear, and I’ve received great support from Circoloco / DC10 resident Davide Squillace.

“When an international artist starts supporting your music, the exposure becomes much greater.”

Presumably, your record label Dual Musik also helps to promote your music and the music of other Argentinean producers?

“Yes definitely, but Dual Musik [l] has not been going very long.

“The focus of Dual Musik is on party techno, and we’re not very minimal.

“Right now we’re doing a Dual Musik tour of South America.

“Then when I go back to Barcelona, I’m going to go into the studio for a month. Amongst other things, I will be working on a single for Adam Beyer’s Drumcode records, plus a single for a new Italian minimal label from Naples called Mosaiko."

What’s your studio like?

“I mainly use PC to produce with Ableton Live.

“I also have a Korg Kaosspad 3, a Novation Bass Station and I use VST soft synths like Reactor and Destroy FX.

“When I produce I like to create my own sounds in a sound editor, for example I make my own kick drum by fusing three or four kick drum sounds together.

“I never use presets.”
