SAMC club review: Marco Carola @ Bahrein
SAMC club review: Marco Carola @ Bahrein
8 March, 2008 | 11.50PMBahrein is packed.
Tonight’s main performer, Marco Carola
, caught a leg from Italy to join what’s become this annual event known as SAMC.
And the crowd is clearly appreciative.
The last time Industry Boy stepped into a club this hot and sweaty was in Ibiza — and the excited, high octane atmosphere reminds me that whilst the summer-long party season is just around the bend, Carola’s set at SAMC seems to be the perfect precursor.
But that still doesn’t erase the fact that it’s exceptionally too hot.
It also doesn’t stop me from recognizing a true party jam in Sebo K ‘Far Out’ as it blasts over the speakers.
Though trance bleeds through from upstairs, Mariano Trocca, the main organizer of SAMC, spins early — playing tech house, almost as if in combat with the second room.
If his DJ set wasn’t enough to get Industry Boy’s attention, his Beatport t-shirt certainly did.
Carola is up next.
He looks quite scientific in his preparation, amazingly intent on his equipment and set-up, barely looking up from the turntables.
It’s nearly as if he’s scoping out the crowd in a stoic, robotic fashion.
And then hits the techno, and all indicators point to a late-night affair.
While Carola earns whistles and shouts by dropping some classic cuts of tomorrow with a style reminiscent of his Fabric mix CD, it’s Buenos Aires’ own Barem who lures Industry Boy and the Beatportal team into the DJ Booth, only to force some strange vodka concoction called “Speed” into the mix.
And then, before I know it, it’s 8 am, and the vodka seems to have taken its full effect.
Or was it the intoxicating effect of Carola’s DJ set?
All I know is that the party is over.
And while the Argentinian sun is up and I painfully have forgotten my sunglasses, I stumble home.
