Rusko holds on

Rusko holds on

Rusko’s got a rep for busting out macho wobblers, but he shows his sensitive side with ‘Hold On’, one of the lead cuts on his new album for Diplo’s Mad Decent [l] label. Featuring the vocals of Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman, it’s a sweetly nostalgic 4/4 cut that reminds me a little of MJ Cole (though my officemate Caleb Rakes suggests Chicane’s ‘Don’t Give Up’ as another point of comparison, and he’s kind of got a point).

Whatever the case, Rusko [a] looks like he’s having an absolute blast, which can hardly be surprising: just 25 years old, he’s one of dubstep’s biggest names, and a likely candidate to finally break the genre in America. And with everyone from Rihanna to M.I.A. to Britney Spears hiring him for production duties, he’s about to get a lot bigger. (Maybe even big enough to pay a proper hairstylist—though one rather hopes his homespun mohawk doesn’t fall victim to his fame. Remember where you came from, Rusko!)

‘O.M.G.!’, featuring Gucci Mane, Crookers, Ben Westbeech and Rod Azlan, is out now on Mad Decent (North America only) and Cooperative (U.K.).
