Roland Clark releases ‘Life Time’
29 May, 2008 | 11.55AMThe unmistakable vocal talent that is Roland “The Voice” Clark is again at the forefront of his game on Urban Soul’s new King Street Sounds release, ‘Life Time’, which isn’t another of his archetypal “docu-tale” speeches of house music’s history.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Who in their right mind wouldn’t list ‘My Urban Soul’, ‘Where Were You’ and ‘If I Was A DJ’ as essential offerings?
Instead of his usual spoken monologues we get the chance to hear Clark’s signature falsettos in song, and great they are, too, harking back to his finest work from a decade ago on Armand Van Helden’s ‘Flowerz’.
Italy’s Doll Combers remix injects pure disco-bliss into their version, with a real retro charm that’s rarely heard this good these days.
It’s backed with a further mix from Daishi Dance - one of Japan’s hottest new DJ/producers - who adds funky keys, a muscular bassline and chunky house beats to his restyling.
