Rivera ‘Funk-A-Tron’ is reworked

I remember very specifically the first time I heard Robbie Rivera’s ‘Funk-A-Tron’ at the turn of the new millennium.
I was managing the talented Miami producer at the time and had truly thought he’d lost it!
How wrong could I have been?
Robbie had created a gargantuan groove that bounced along over a well-oiled instrumental landscape of rasping hi-hats, rhapsodic synth solos and pitch-shifting chords.
Subliminal Records similarly were on his wavelength and together the two had a sizeable club hit.
The key was: don’t try too hard to understand it, just accept the bombastic tsunami of creativity of funk virtuosity at its fucked up best.
Fast forward to present day and ‘Funk-A-Tron’ has been remade by Suesse Records’ label boss, Richard Colman [pictured] and upcoming producers Hollywood Hills.
It’s not a million miles removed from Rivera’s original blend of freaky silicon implanted South Beach house, so little wonder he too has embraced it and given his seal of approval.
The same for ATFC, Michael Gray, Carl Kennedy and the Trophy Twins who have all rocked the bottom-end out of the distorted basslines in Ibiza this past season.
The new version is another wickedly hip and chunky number that expertly blends head-nodding Superchumbo-esque bongo-lines, with austere enveloping beats.
Made for clubs with a guarantee to let ‘em have it.
