‘Ride the Storm’ is remixed
19 October, 2007 | 9.19AMIt’s probably my record of 2007 (so far), and the man named Roger Sanchez even went as far as to proclaim it “an emotional summer anthem… definitely one for Pacha”, while his Essentialness Pete Tong made it his tune of the week echoing “life is beautiful when you find records like this”.
What record are we all in awe of?
‘Ride The Storm’ by Carl Kennedy
Vs. MYNC Project
ft. Roachford
, of course.
This hauntingly beautiful song was originally created as a DJ tool by the talented Carl Kennedy, an Australian now residing in the US.
“There is magic in this record,” he says.
“It was made with honesty, love and a lot of pain, and will always be my favourite project.”
But his idea of taking an old Andrew Roachford album track and transforming it into a future Balearic classic didn’t go unnoticed, nor did the resulting record company threats, manipulation, and deceit that followed.
But all’s now sorted, and with a credit now supporting the MYNC’s involvement, there is a happy ending to this story.
Words can’t do justice to this hauntingly beautiful, upbeat number that now comes in a plethora of new creations from the likes of Jason Herd, Johnny Fiasco, Kaz James (of the Body Rockers) Femi & Legz, Danny Howells & Dick Trevor, Morton Trust and a sun-kissed downbeat version from Chris Coco & Rob Da Bank.
In a word, “sublime”.
