Ricardo Villalobos compiles his two-part ‘Vasco EP’ on CD
29 September, 2008 | 12.38PMThese days the CD format is the king of kings when it comes to the music of Ricardo Villalobos
.
Simply because once you press that play button, you can get lost in his psychedelic excursions into the trippiest corners of the techno and house universe without having to flip the record every now and then.
And once in a while there is a track that Ricardo Villalobos finds worthy to be released in its entire length - like his epic ‘Fizheuer Zieheuer’, a mesmerizing 40-minute odyssey.
Well, there is another time-defying epic about to be unleashed.
While some think that the Chileean producer simply indulges in trippy soundscapes too erratic for the dancefloor, others (like me) are (mostly) simply blown away by his endless stream of rhythmic variations and the depth of his multilayered sound.
For his new CD which compiles all his original tracks from the two ‘Vasco EP’ twelves plus the yet unreleased ‘Skinfummel’ (so no Shackleton and San Proper remixes), he surprises us with the full version of ‘Minimoonstar’.
On vinyl, the track already stretched out over fifteen minutes, but in its full version ‘Minimoonstar’ becomes a seductive 30+ minute journey, which once again displays the magic of Villalobos’ sound: Lush and complex, driven by a pool of seamlessly looped micro-rhythms.
Released in about two weeks on Perlon, ‘Minimoonstar’ marks another highlight in Ricardo Villalobos’ career.
