Retro Sonics for London’s old skool fans
Retro Sonics for London’s old skool fans
8 January, 2009 | 3.59AMOld skool ravers will have a new temple in London at the end of January in which to don white gloves and blow their air horns.
DJ Kid Fiesta aka Franc Gooding, co-director of Bloom Festival, has announced a new night called Retro Sonics that is dedicated to late ‘80s and early ‘90s house music.
Unlike many of the other retrospective raves around, the first Retro Sonics party will actually see two of the biggest early UK house pioneers play live, Shades of Rhythm and Liquid
. Oi oi.
Go on, dress like Altern8 tonight
“I’ve been meaning to get this night going for a few years but I’ve always been too busy with other projects to really focus on it,” explained Gooding.
“I’ve always felt that there’s a distinct lack of nights that cater for old skool house in London, which is surprising considering the strength and depth of the dance music scene here.
“To find good old skool house you have to travel north or visit the large SEOne type raves, but even then they tend to cater more for the old skool breakbeat end of things.”
With Liquid doing a live PA (how can you not fail to smile at their ‘Sweet Harmony’, check it in the player!) and FPI Project
, Altern8 and 808 State
booked for the coming months, Retro Sonics looks set to be a hell of a lot of fun.
I want to get back to the real roots of house music, to a time when the genres were still blurred and you could dance to music which drew on acid, piano, reggae and dub
Gooding confirmed the excitement: “"I want to get back to the real roots of house music, to a time when the genres were still blurred and you could dance to music which drew on acid, piano, reggae and dub.
“Where the dancefloor is the real focus of the night and where the music will make your body jack and make you throw your hands in the air and flash smiles at the people dancing next to you.”
