Resident Advisor announces Top DJs of 2010
6 December, 2010 | 8.19AMAs always, December is awash in end-of-year lists, rankings, polls, roundups, rants, summaries, opinionating, bloviating, and other forms of critical hot air.
And then there’s Resident Advisor’s Top DJs of 2010 poll. For house and techno fans of a slightly underground bet, it’s pretty much the year’s definitive ranking of DJs. (Their poll of live acts is forthcoming.) We’re not going to give away this year’s results—for those, you’ll have to visit the poll itself—but we will note that it’s full of surprises. The top 10 is basically one big elbowing match between big-tent superstars, rising stars, and resolutely underground types, and positions 10 through 20 are also plenty provocative. The overall picture that emerges portrays a scene more diverse and dynamic than you’ll find represented in most mainstream dance press—although, admittedly, RA’s readership is clearly focused mainly on house and techno; there’s almost no other style represented, with the exception of a few shrugs in the direction of dubstep and disco.
Check it out over at RA, and tell us what you think: who’s placed too high, who deserves a higher slot, and who got left out entirely? Do the rankings reflect the house and techno scenes as you see them?
Just for good measure, we’ve gathered top 10 charts from a handful of RA’s favored players; click “keep reading” to check them out, and leave your comments.
