Renegade Snares (High Contrast Remix)

Omni Trio [Moving Shadow]

Originally released in 2003, the style, production and sound of this track in no way sounds dated on this collaboration from two of drum & bass’ finest innovators.

Released towards the end of Moving Shadow’s great tenure, this track has been described as “a match made in heaven”, as it brought together the pioneer of intelligent drum & bass Rob Playford [a], with a fresh faced High Contrast [a] before he had made his huge musical impact.

Moving Shadow [l] was one of the most important d&b labels to have existed, with a roster that added new levels of creativity and sounds that helped to bridge the gap between the dark junglist sound of the nineties, through to the techier, intelligent sound of modern day productions.

From its vast repertoire of releases Omni Trio [a]’s ‘Renegade Snares’ was always seen as a classic, and was one of the label’s very first releases back in 1993.

Ten years later the infamous hardcore anthem was given a full High Contrast [a] make over. Still entwined within the beats are the classic rave piano loop, uplifting string harmonies and the unforgettable euphoric ‘Lift Me Up’ vocals.

Lincoln Barret, aka High Contrast added a rolling dnb beat pattern and a thunderous bassline that brought ‘Renegade Snares’ into the 21st Century and is one of the reasons why he became ‘King of Remixers’ at such an early point in his career.

Many will argue that the ‘Foul Play’ remix is the superior remix, and indeed it does have its time and place, but personally I prefer the High Contrast remix which is the more driving and uplifiting interpretation.
