Renaissance festival dumps prog for minimal and electro

There are signs that progressive house is dwindling in popularity. British club night and record label Renaissance, which has always been a staunch supporter of the dark house sound, has abandoned the genre’s DJs in favour of minimal and electro jocks for its upcoming 15th anniversary Wild In The Country festival.

Only Sasha [a] & John Digweed [a], the two godfathers of the scene are representing the prog corner at the special boutique birthday bash in Hertfordshire on Saturday 30th June.

Old Renaissance heavyweights such as Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman have not been booked.

And despite Renaissance having recently released a double mix CD from Satoshi Tomiie, the veteran house DJ has too been left off the Wild In The Country list.

Instead minimal masters Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Damian Lazarus and Mathew Jonson will all play at the event at Knebworth Park.

And electro and indie dance will be provided by Simian Mobile Disco, Erol Alkan, Tiga and Filthy Dukes.

Despite the lack of prog, clubbers and Renaissance regulars have reportedly been snapping up the £35 early bird tickets that are on sale now.
