One of the world’s biggest DJs and producers, Germany’s Paul van Dyk, is looking for a talented producer to remix his track with Giuseppe Ottaviani, ‘Far Away’, on Beatport.

And for the very first time, the Beatportal community will have the chance to vote for the best submitted remixes.

The remix competition is open to producers from all genres, as Paul van Dyk is looking for innovative, cutting-edge and thought-provoking mixes of his track.

‘Far Away’, from the 2007 album ‘In Between’, is perfectly tailored for the dancefloor, and a great opportunity to create a new interpretation of the huge cut — never before available on Beatport.

Van Dyk wanted to create this unique opportunity and to challenge production gurus and fans around the world.

”This remix opportunity is a first for a track from my catalogue”, says van Dyk.

“And it’s a great chance to see where other creative minds within the Beatportal community can take this journey.”

The Paul van Dyk remix contest operates in two phases; the first involves a submission period for remixes (from May 12th through June 2nd), and the second involves a voting period by users from within the Beatportal community (from June 3rd through June 23rd).

As well as having their remix released on Paul van Dyk’s label Vandit Digital, the first place winner will also receive a Pacemaker, $100 in Beatport Credit, and a copy of Ableton Suite (including Ableton Live 7, Sampler, Operator, Electric, Analog, Tension, Drum Machines, Essential Instrument Collection 2 and Session Drums).

And the second and third place runners-up will receive Ableton Live 7 and Ableton Live 7 LE, respectively, along with Beatport gear.

COMPETITION RULES

1. Download the remix parts to ‘Far Away’. There are two free parts available that are not part of the premium package, and also a premium package containing all 10 parts to ‘Far Away’ — including the full version of the original — for $3.99 USD.
Please note: The contest is being judged on originality of remix, not sound quality. You do not need to download the WAV files to enter the remix contest, unless of course you want to. If your remix is chosen as a winner, there will be time to have your tracks mastered to highest quality.
2. Remix the track into your chosen style. All genres are welcome.
3. Submit your remix to Beatportal’s remix website. All entries must include full contact details, telephone number and postal address. Note: If your submission is not accepted, your file is too large. Your MP3 is limited to no more than 10 MB in size.
4. The submission phase of the Paul van Dyk ‘Far Away’ Remix Competition starts on May 12th 2008 at 2.01pm MST and ends on June 2nd 2008 at 11.59pm MST.
5. The voting phase of the Paul van Dyk ‘Far Away’ Remix Competition starts on June 3rd 2008 at 12.01am MST and ends on June 23rd 2008 at 11.59pm MST.
6. 15 remixes will be submitted as voted by the Beatportal community votes along with 15 Beatport selected remixes, from which one winner and two runners-up will be chosen by Paul van Dyk and announced on Beatportal on July 16th 2008.
7. The winning remix will be released on Beatport.
8. Tracks using uncleared samples from sources outside of these ‘Far Away’ parts will be disqualified.
9. All remixes submitted for this contest become the legal property of Paul van Dyk GmBH, along with Avex Asia Limited, JVC, Be Yourself Music, Dance Paradise Russia, Cabeza de Raton Music Colombia, EMI Music Mexico, Liberator Music, Magic Records, Matrix Music, EMI Records/Positiva, Mute, Sheer, Vale Music Spain, Odyssey, DVD Liider Estonia, Universal Music and PHONOKOL Israel.
10. All trademarks and logos are protected. All rights of the producer and the owner of the recorded work are reserved. Unauthorized copying, hiring, renting, public performance and broadcasting of this record, remix or remix parts is prohibited.
11. You may upload your remix to Myspace and other online sites but it must be clearly named as a ‘Paul van Dyk remix competition entry’ eg:
