Regret Remix Competition Winners

The two winning remixes in the Moussa Clarke [a] ‘Regret’ Remix Contest are…

The two winners in the Regret Remix Contest — Roman Rai’s Solstice Remix and the 6884 Remix — have been announced today on the competition webpage, where you can hear samples of both mixes.

They will also be featured on the Regret Pt 2 release out mid-October.

‘Regret Pt 1’ is out now, available from Beatport exclusively and supported by John Dahlback, Kosmas Epsilon, Stonebridge, Mark Dynamix, Redanka, Andy Moor, Da Fresh, The Flash Brothers, The Scumfrog, Matt Darey, Dave Lambert, Fred Numf, Mashtronic, DJ Linus, Ricky Ryan, Timo Garcia, Ozgur Can, Aldrin, Col Hamilton, Zimbardo and many more.

Here’s what Moussa Clarke said about the contest:

What made you choose these two mixes?

The Roman Rai mix has a great retro vibe to it, with a lot of musicality and dancefloor bounce.

It’s exactly the kind of thing I like to play near the end of my DJ sets, particularly if I’ve been banging it for a while! Also there’s some really clever little production touches in there.

And the 6884 mix is just amazing - moody, emotional, minimal and extremely well produced, with a goose-bump inducing breakdown, and with more than a passing nod to James Holden, Nathan Fake and that whole Border Community vibe (which I love).

It was impossible to choose between the two, which is why we have two winners - and I think they both complement the remix package perfectly.

How would you describe the general quality of the remixes submitted?

Overall it was very high, and it just goes to show how global the whole scene is. The winners are from Czech Republic and Italy, and we had entries from all over the place, including the USA, Russia, Ukraine, Malta, Germany, the UK, etc.

Any hints or tips you would like to give to aspiring producers when it comes to remix competitions?

Make sure you incorporate some elements from the original, but follow your creative instincts and try to do something different enough.

The label probably aren’t looking for something that’s too similar in style to the original versions, since they will want it to appeal to different DJs.
