6884 (a k a Stefano Ugliano) and Roman Rai won the Regret Remix Competition:

-Tell us a bit about yourselves!

6884: -Hi, I am Stefano, 19, from Torino, Italy. I am attending the first year of university (physics..) and I make lots of music in the meantime… I have a huge number of passions including photography, graphics & design and, of course, djing, producing and everything related to music. I’ve been into music since I was a kid - I started when I was 4 and tried many different things and instruments. (I still play piano and occasionally drums)
My first love was trance, which didn’t even exist here in Italy (or at least in Torino) until a couple of years ago, and those huge breakdowns that I can’t resist putting in my music are heritage of this period. I’m really in a deep period now, and I’m loving the whole detroit scene from the 1990s until today. Detroit is so important for me that I decided to pay tribute with my artist name, 6884, but I’m still not going to reveal anything about this..!

Roman Rai: -Hi.. My name is Roman Rai and ive been involved in djing almost 11 years… Electronic dance music started to interest me when i was about 16 years old and very soon i started buying vinyl and playing clubs.. Now I live in Prague, capital of the Czech Republic and the nicest cities in the world I think and I am resident of the Roxy Club here in Prague… I’m composing almost all the time during the week and playing in the clubs at the weekend with my frined dj Bo. We have digital label, Solstice where I release most of my stuff.

-What made you enter the Regret Remix Competition?

6884: -I accidentally discovered the Regret Remix Competition while surfing on the web: I logged into trance.nu and one of the most recent topics was about this contest...And since I love remixing stuff (sometimes more than producing my own music) I immediately gave a try.. the original track sounded nice and then the main melody came and left me totally chilled: I loved it for the very first moment and decided that I HAD to do something great with that. It seems that I managed to..i’m really satisfied!

RR: -Moussa Clarke told me about the competition and sent me the parts and because I liked the main motif I decided to do it..

-Which equipment did you use?

6884 -I work with Ableton Live, which I love so much, and a bit of vst instruments running on a pc that’s starting to be a bit long in the teeth . I have no hardware synths/modules/stuff unfortunately and I probably won’t for a long period since all my savings are for a mac laptop for adding live elements to my dj sets.

RR: -I work with the Nuendo program using a couple of hardware synths and dsp systems but I think I used only some vst synths and samplers in this remix.

-Were you surprised to find out you won?

6884 -When i got the email which declared my victory I just had goosebumps all over my back and remained half-shocked for some time. It’s the first time I’ve won something of so relevant and even if I liked my track a lot I never thought that other people may find it beautiful too...Plus, I’m really excited about the feedback I’ve received from pro deejays...All of this motivated me a lot and I’m now working harder than ever.

RR: -Yeah.. it was very happy to find out :)
